EXTRA CURRICULAR PROGRAMME OF ACTIVITIES

Depart Friday Afternoon 29 May -  Return Sunday Evening 31 May 2009
Tickets Include: All Transport by Coach, Hostel Accommodation in Galway City & Day Tours to Cliffs of Moher and Connemara.  Friday afternoon: Depart Dublin at 14.00 hrs.  Coach Transfer to Galway City.  Arrive Galway City 17.00 hrs approx.  Check in to Hostel Accommodation (Stay in Galway Friday & Saturday Nights).  Saturday full day touring to the Cliffs of Moher, Sunday full day touring in Connemara Region and return back to Dublin by coach at 20.30 hrs on Sunday.

Visit Dublin Castle, The State Apartments, Undercroft & Royal Chapel.  Dublin Castle is located in the centre of Dublin City.  A Viking Fortress originally stood at this site, a portion of which is on view at the Undercroft.  During later times Dublin Castle was the seat of English rule in Ireland. Meet outside the Central Bank (Dame Street) at 14.40

Greyhound Racing at Shelbourne Stadium (See Map).  The racing starts at 20.00 and finishes at 22.20 hrs.  Facilities at the stadium include an indoor viewing area and outdoor stand.  Full bar and restaurant.  You can place a 2 Euro bet on each race or just watch the action.  Meet Colin Horner outside the Stadium at 19.45The racing will finish at 22.30 hours approximately (you can leave earlier if you wish).  The best way to get to the stadium is to take bus number 3 from O’ Connell Street (10 mins journey) or get the DART train to Barrow Street Station (5 min walk to stadium). Afternoon visit to Kilmainham Jail an unoccupied prison famous for its political history.  The guided tour of this prison is very interesting you will learn a lot about Ireland’s political history and the struggle for independence.  Meeting at Trinity College Main Gate at 14.10.  We will take the bus to Kilmainham about 10 mins journey.

Glendalough and Co Wicklow Bus Tour
Full day guided coach tour to Glendalough, Powerscourt & Co Wicklow.  Glendalough is located in a beautiful wooded valley with two lakes. You will visit the monastic remains including a superb round tower, stone churches and decorated crosses. The Visitor Centre has an interesting exhibition and an audio-visual show.  Powerscourt House is Ireland’s most famous house located in the Wicklow hills.  Sign your name and pay for your ticket in advance (Tues/Wed/Thurs). Then collect your ticket from school office on Friday.

Afternoon Visit to Dublinia Exhibition. The Dublinia Exhibition recreates life in Viking Dublin from 1170 to 1540.  You will see a life size recreation of a merchant’s house and the riverside at Wood Quay.  You can also climb the 17th century tower for a unique, panoramic view of modern Dublin.   Meet outside the Dublinia Exhibition, (beside Christchurch Cathedral) at  14.10

Guinness Storehouse. Afternoon visit to the New Guinness Storehouse where you will learn about the craft of Guinness brewing. You will also visit the panoramic bar at the top of the building for a free pint of the “black stuff”.    Meet outside the Dublinia Exhibition (beside Christchurch Cathedral) at 14.20

Evening Cinema Visit. (film title to be arranged) at the Savoy Cinema, O’ Connell Street.  Sign your name and pay for your ticket in advance (Mon or Tues morning). Then collect your ticket from school office on Tuesday at 13.30.

Thursday 25 June 2009
Evening of live music with a live band, upstairs at the Wellington Pub.  The music will start at 20.30 and finish at 22.30 hrs.  Meet outside the school at 20.20 hrs.

Please sign your name on the programme list at the office.  Some tours close as soon as the list has reached the maximum number.  Your name must be on the list to enable you to attend. On the day of the activity please remember to check with school office for any changes in meeting time or meeting point
